Olivarez repels LS-Dasma five

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Olivarez College poured in 17 points in second overtime while holding La Salle-Dasmariñas to just three markers as it came away with a 78-64 victory in the 21st National Capital Region Athletic Association (NCRAA) men’s basketball tournament at the Rizal Technological University gym in Mandaluyong yesterday.

Danny Masso spearheaded the Sea Lions’ fiery run in second extension, scoring 11 of his 30 points while the rest clamped down on defense as Olivarez College rebounded from back-to-back setbacks.

Philippine Merchant Marine School routed Emilio Aguinaldo College-Cavite, 104-71, last Wednesday to tie St. Clare in the lead with 2-0 cards.

Nico Bolos shot 15 points while Darwin Lunor made 14 markers for the Mariners.

The Sea Lions took charge in the first half and sat on a 22-12 cushion at the turn but struggled in the third to trail, 25-37.

But they pounced on the foul-riddled Patriots in the fourth with Jay Alquisalas’ split forcing the first overtime at 53. La Salle-Dasmariñas’ mainstay Jeff Acain, meanwhile, sank two charities in the last 30 seconds to send the game into second overtime.

Franklin Mancio then scored on a drive and hit a three-pointer at resumption before Masso unloaded a series of baskets as the Sea Lions raced away for good.

The Patriots drew 19 and 17 points from Clifford Castro and John Sablan, respectively.
