Pres Cup age group netfest under way
MANILA, Philippines - The President’s Cup age-group tennis tournament fires off today with the leading players and rising stars slugging it out for top honors and ranking points at the Olivarez Sports Center in Sucat, Parañaque.
Eric Jed Olivarez and Andrew Joshua Cano headline the crack boys’ 18-and-under cast that also includes Marcen Gonzales, Jerome Romualdez, Luke Flores, Jose Nicolas Cano, Chris Prulla and Emmanuel Fuellas, guaranteeing an action-packed battle for supremacy in the premier division of the event held in honor of Philta president and Parañaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez.
Jana Hernandez and Johanna Capinpin, meanwhile, banner the girls’ field along with Steffi Del Rosario and Gwyneth Bejer in the 18-and-under class and Angelica Santiago, Camille So, Rafaella Villanueva and Sophia Yap in the 16-and-U field of the event serving as part of the year-round, nationwide Palawan Pawnshop Express Padala age-group tournament presented by Babolat.
“These young players are the future of Philippine tennis and this event will showcase their skills and talent in a highly competitive level, this being a Group 2 tournament,†said Olivarez.
Justin Suarez, Al Burahan, Stephan Lhuillier and Tim Gumban represent the younger crop as they vie in the boys’ 14-and-U category with Villanueva, Chloe Saraza, Santiago and Melanie Dizon heading the cast in the distaff side while Diego Dayrit and Daniel Estanislao III and Mikaela Vicencio and Miles Vitaliano banner the cast in the 12-and-U and 10-unisex categories.
“Through the years, it has been the commitment of Palawan Pawnsho to support and develop our players by providing top-notch tournaments like this,†said Palawan Pawnshop COO Bobby Castro. “This tournament will surely inspire our young players to achieve a higher level of play.â€
