Chan, Legaspi lead Ateneo, St. Paul’s Pasig to victory

MANILA, Philippines - Aidric Chan and Miya Legaspi powered Ateneo and St. Paul’s Pasig to a sweep of the team and individual titles in their respective divisions in the ICTSI-JGFP Inter-schools golf championships at the executive course of the Valley Golf and Country Club in Antipolo. recently.

The 12-year-old Chan capped Ateneo’s domination of the Midgets 1 competition with a sizzling six-under-par 66 card – the lowest score posted so far in the three-month series sponsored by the International Container Terminal Services, Inc., that also rallied him past teammate Carl Corpus and Ira Alido of Elizabeth Seton School for the individual crown.

With a 211 total, Chan finished just a stroke ahead of Corpus as the cousins steered Ateneo to an unchallenged romp over Learning Links in the team competition. The other members of the Ateneo team were Marc Corrales and Karl dela Torre.

It was also a sweep in Girls 2 with Legaspi, the Asian Youth Games champion, and St. Paul’s Pasig marching on to blowout wins in the series organized by the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines and also sponsored by Pancake House, Sizzlin’ Pepper, Yellow Cab, Golf Depot, McDonald’s and the Philippine Golf Foundation.

Legaspi had a 224 aggregate to finish far ahead of Pauline del Rosario of La Salle Zobel in individual play while leading teammates Annika Cedo, Daniella Uy and Isabella Miravite to the team crown for St. Paul’s Pasig over La Salle Zobel, 428-405.

In Girls 1, La Salle-Taft captured the team crown but Katya Roxas salvaged the  individual plum. The La Sallians wound up with a 243 against the 210 of College of St. Benilde led by Roxas who edged La Salle’s Abby Olea by one, 119-118.
