Games Today (Ynares Arena)
2 p.m. – Arellano U vs Boracay Rum
4 p.m. – Derulo Accelero vs Wang’s Basketball
MANILA, Philippines - Wang’s Basketball and Boracay Rum take on separate rivals today, both hoping to rebound from a pair of shaky starts and revive their respective bids in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup at the Ynares Arena in Pasig City.
Wang’s, down in the lower half of the 14-team field with a 2-4 card, clashes with Derulo Accelero at 4 p.m. while Boracay Rum, also struggling with a 2-5 slate, battles Arellano at 2 p.m.
The Couriers are coming off a 59-75 blowout loss to the Jumbo Plastic side last week but are raring to get back on track with a victory over the Oilers, who could only turn in a 1-6 card.
Only six teams will advance to the playoff round after elims with the top two squads gaining outright semifinal berths. The third and fourth ranked teams will earn twice-to-beat edges against their respective rivals in the quarterfinals.
“From where we are right now it looks tough (making the playoffs). But we’re not thinking about it anyway. Our mindset at the moment is to rebound and get back on track. Hopefully our determination would lead us to another win,†said Wang’s Basketball coach Pablo Lucas.
Derulo Accelero, meanwhile, is raring to come up with a follow-up to its 82-75 victory over Arellano U, snapping a six-game losing skid.
“Our patience finally paid off. Hopefully we could build on this. Wang’s (Basketball) is playing well. They are big and they have a lot of good shooters. Discipline and defense will be the key for us,†said Derulo Accelero coach Paolo Mendoza.
Meanwhile, the Waves and the Chiefs seek to snap their three-game skid at each other’s expense.
