Arles finishes 8th in BWC
KRASNOYARSK, Russia – Maria Lourdes (Mades) Arles of the Philippines lost her touch when she needed it most, winning only two matches in the quarterfinal round and finishing eighth in the women’s division of the 49th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup international finals Sunday at the Sibiryak Center here.
Arles recorded 9037 pins in 40 games to average 225.93.
The other Filipino representative in the prestigious, gruelling individual kegfest – Benshir Layoso – wound up 17th in the men’s group with 7390 in 32 games.
Canada’s Caroline Lagrange and Israel’s Or Aviram emerged as women’s and men’s champions but both were extended to three matches in the finals by their respective rivals.
Lagrange subdued Singapore’s Cherie Tan, 2-1 (242-207, 212-247, 215-213) to become the sixth Canadian woman – and 10th Canadian overall – to claim the crown.
Tan earned a shot at Lagrange by ousting Dominican Republic’s Aumi Guerra, 2-0 (214-208, 247-212).
Or first knocked out Russian Alexei Parshukov 2-0 (213-171, 220-206), and then outsteadied South Africa’s Guy Caminsky, 2-1 (279-245, 214-277, 258-182).
