John Hay pads Fil-Am Seniors lead to 4 points

BAGUIO , Philippines   â€“ Camp John Hay made the most of its local knowledge and put in 118 Molave points to open a four-point lead over Megafiber and Pugo Adventure Golf at the start of the seniors Fil Championship division of the San Miguel Fil-Am golf tournament at the Camp John Hay layout here yesterday.

Bong Mandapat and Lee Ki-seung came away with identical 30 points while Park Jong-won and veteran Fred Puckett chipped in 29 points each in the five-to-play, four-to-count format event backed by title sponsor San Miguel Corp. and presented by Toyota.

“It was a good start for us and hopefully we can maintain this form till the final round,” said Mandapat, spokesman of the defending champion CJH squad.

Megafiber and Pugo Adventure assembled similar 114s with Rene Unson shooting a 30, Bing Bunyi and Mari Hechanova adding 29 points each and Poch Hernandez scoring a 26 for the former. Goody Ignacio paced Pugo Adventure with 33 points while Ed Montenegro, Richard Sili and Eugene Martin had 29, 27 and 25 markers, respectively.

Manila Southwoods struggled with a 106 for fourth.

CJH’s second team also showed the way in the Am Championship with 100 points as Mars Garcia fired a 32, Rudy Lockey carded a 26 and Jeong Sek-jun and Ric Madayag chipping 22 and 20 points, respectively.
