MACAU – Fil-Am singer Jessica Sanchez, who had a successful concert in Manila, had gone through several versions of the Philippine national anthem which she will sing during opening rites but promised to be as “traditional†but as “a distinctly Jessica Sanchez.â€
Aware that the anthem has sparked controversies as local performers like Martin Nievera and Arnel Pineda took liberty in their rendition, dragging into issue the National Historical Commission, and touching off a “tempest in a teacup†back home, Jessica says she will make sure that the strains of the song will be true to the spirit of the anthem.
She will also sing the Star Spangled Banner.
It will be the second time that Sanchez, whose mother hailed from Samal, Bataan, will perform in a Pacquiao fight – the first during the Pacman-Tim Bradley duel last year in Las Vegas.
“I love Manny Pacquiao, he’s awesome,†said Jessica, who finished runner-up in the American Idol two years ago.
