Blu Girls upbeat on Asian bid

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines (Asaphil) president Jean Henri Lhuillier expressed high hopes for the championship bid of the Phl Blu Girls who are competing in the 11th Asian Women’s Softball Championship slated Nov. 24-30 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

Lhuillier gave his all out support during the squad’s practice at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium where he encouraged the Blu Girls to put in their best in the Asian championships where they will be up against a tough field that includes Asia’s powerhouse teams Japan, Korea and Chinese Taipei.

“Our ultimate goal is to land in the Top 3 to qualify for the 14th World Softball in Haarlan, Netherlands on Aug. 15-24 next year,” said Jun Veloso, Asaphil operations manager.

Veloso added that victory will not be easy because other countries have also prepared hard for the tournament.

But he remains confident that their training during the last four months make the four-time Southeast Asian Games champion competitive in their bid for at least a third place finish.
