Layoso, Arles make Top Eight in bowling WC
KRASNOYARSK, Russia –The Philippines’ Benshir Layoso and Maria Lourdes (Mades) Arles posted remarkable scores after two days to boost their chances of hurdling the 24-man cut in the 2013 QUBICA AMF Bowling World Cup at the Krasnoyarsk Center here.
Layoso rolled 2916 pinfalls in 12 games for a sizzling 243 average to rank fourth in the men’s division while Arles tallied 2944 in 13 games to check in sixth in the women’s division.
Sweden’s Peter Hellstrom and Canada’s Caroline Lagrange showed the way in the world’s most prestigious, toughest individual kegfest by shooting 3061 and 3186, respectively.
Germany’s Bodo Konieczny came in behind Hellstrom with 2949, followed by Venezuela’s William Ching (2932), Layoso, Belgium’s Mats Maggi (2901), France’s Vincent Cayez (2890), Christopher Sloan (2884), Russia’s Alexei Parshukov (2882), Israel’s Or Aviram (2870) and Mexico’s Humberto Vasquez (2851).
Singapore’s Cherie Tan stood second in the women’s group with 3075, followed by Dominican Republic’s Aumi Guerra (2836), the United States’ Danielle McEwan (2769), Romania’s Luminita Farkas Bucin (2950), Arles, Norway’s Patcharin Torgersen (2672), Belgium’s Katrien Goosens (2893), Sweden’s Sandra Andersson (2882) and Aruba’s Thashaina Seraus (2880).
American John Sczerbinksi came in 11th in the men’s division with 2838.
Seventy-four male and 64 female champions around the world are vying in the tournament organized by QUBICA and AMF.
Layoso and Arles earned the right to represent the Philippines by winning the national crown last August.
