Elorde cockfight to help relief effort
MANILA, Philippines - The Elorde Cockpit 4-cock anniversary benefit derby will be held tonight starting at 6 p.m., at the Elorde cockpit Stadium on Sucat Road, Parañaque. Proceeds of the event will go to the funds being set up by cockfighting aficionados for the victims of Typhoon Yolanda.
Promoted by businessman-sportsman Johnny Elorde, the derby is in celebration of the Elorde Cockpit’s 20th anniversary. It has a guaranteed prize of P300,000, with pot money pegged at P11,000. The winning handler receives P30,000 and gaffer P20,000.
Mayor Nene Aguilar and Jessie and Jojo Marquez of Silver Mallet head top breeders in the event which sets a weight limit between 1.8 and 2.4 kg, with minimum bet at P5,500.
Forty entries have already been confirmed.
Meanwhile, a one-cock ulutan fastest kill is held every Monday at the same venue while special ulutan is held Tuesdays and hackfights from Wednesday to Sunday.
