Elorde holds derby for a cause

MANILA, Philippines - Typhoon Yolanda victims will be the beneficiaries of a 4-cock anniversary derby set tomorrow at the Elorde Cockpit Stadium on Sucat Road, Parañaque.

Promoted by businessman-sportsman Johnny Elorde, the derby, held in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Elorde Cockpit, will have a a guaranteed prize of P300,000 with pot money pegged at P11,000. The handler and gaffer will receive P30,000 and P20,000, respectively.

Top breeders expected to compete are led by Mayor Nene Aguilar, Wolverine, Bong Paraiso, Boss Tisoy, Atty. Astorga, Teves brothers, Jessie and Jojo Marquez of Silver Malet, Badang of Cavite, Jonas of Parañaque and  Chito Bong.

Weight range is between 1.8 and 2.4 kg with minimum bet at P5,500.

Forty entries have already been confirmed. Today is the deadline for submission of entries.

Meanwhile, a one-cock ulutan fastest kill is held every Monday while special ulutan is held every Tuesday also at Elorde’s. Hackfights are held Wednesday to Sunday.
