Brahmans open PCCL regional title defense

MANILA, Philippines - Defending champion University of Batangas starts defense of its title today in the South Luzon-Bicol regional championship of the Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) in Sorsogon City.

The Brahmans dominated the United Calabarzon Collegiate League and NCAA-South and will be out to face the challenge of the Basketball Intercollegiate Championship of Sorsogon (BICCS) champion Lewis College, Naga City Intercollegiate Championship king Naga College Foundation and PCCL Tabaco City Challenge titleholder Amando Cope College.

The championship game, slated on Saturday, will be covered by ABS-CBN and aired on Studio 23 on Monday, 2-6 p.m.

UB  eliminated Quezon champion Calayan Educational Foundation and Southern Luzon Colleges and Universities Athletic Association titlist STI College of Sta. Rosa to advance to the regional finals.

The South Luzon-Bicol champion advances to the Sweet 16.

Season and Finals MVP Leonil Barde powered Naga College Foundation Tigers to the ninth Naga City Intercollegiate Basketball Championship after nosing out the Ateneo de Naga Golden Knights, 66-65.

Ateneo forced sudden death by edging the Tigers, 80-79, in Game 1.

The Amando Cope College Green Serpents, on the other hand, snatched their sixth consecutive Tabaco City league title.

The Lewis College Blazing Fox were unstoppable in the BICCS.
