Global City holds unique fun run honoring Phl hero

MANILA, Philippines - The Bonifacio Global City (BGC) commemorates the life of hero Andres Bonifacio with Run BGC 2013:TAKBONIFACIO – a unique, costume-filled five-kilometer fun run slated on Bonifacio Day, Nov. 30.

To recreate a feel of 19th century Philippines, participants are encouraged to wear the best “Katipunero” or traditional “Filipiniana” attire as they go through the obstacle course, with “Gwardya Sibil” scattered all around to pose threats like they did during Bonifacio’s time. During the run, runners will be wearing a belt with life flags that the  “Gwardya Sibil” will attempt to seize.

Fun obstacles are set in key areas around Metro Manila where historical events took place. In San Juan, the “Guwardiya Sibil” will be armed with water soakers to attack the “Katipuneros; In Pinaglabanan, an army of “Gwardiya Sibil” will be running after life flags; in Bonifacio, “Andres Bonifacio” himself who will be giving away free life flags; in Marikina, participants will climb up the giant inflatable slide and enjoy the way down or crawl inside the tunnels with “Gwardiya Sibil” waiting on the other side, and in Balintawak, runners will express themselves and write why they are proud to be a Filipino.
