Phil goes berserk with 6 goals in Sparks’ 9-0 mauling of Dolphins

Joey Villar - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Nothing, not even a heartbreak, could stop Phil Younghusband from doing his thing.

A couple of days after news broke out confirming his breakup with a celebrity girlfriend, Younghusband went to football and unleashed six goals in an emphatic 9-0 Loyola Meralco Sparks victory over Navy FC in the United Football League Cup Sunday at the Emperador Stadium in Taguig City.

Younghusband came off the bench and unloaded all his six goals in an impressive span of 28 minutes starting on the 48th and ending on the 76th to spark an eight-goal second half that turned a one goal first half edge to victory.

It was the Sparks' second straight victory after steamrolling Dolphins United FC, 16-0, last Oct. 19 that catapulted it straight to the top alongside Green Archers-Globe in Group E on identical six match points.

Chad Edward Gould opened up the scoring for Loyola with a 23rd-minute rocket to go into halftime with a shaky 1-0 advantage.

Then Younghusband, whose relationship with popular actress Angel Locsin started last year and ended recently, went on a scoring barrage in the second half to zap the last fight left in the dazed Navymen.

Navy fell to its first loss and fell to joint third with Dolphins United FC on three points apiece.

In another Group D match, Dolphins United walloped Blue Guards, 11-1.

In Group C action, Former Cup titlist Air Force grounded Agila FC, 3-0, and Stallion FC trounced Bright Star, 3-1, to remain tied at second in their group with six points each, a point behind leader Cebu Queen City United.
