Huey, Inglot enter Swiss doubles finals
MANILA, Philippines -- Fil-Am Treat Huey and Great Britain's Dominic Inglot continued to make strides as the duo trounced France's Michael Llodra and Nicolas Mahut, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (2) to gatecrash into the finals of the Swiss Indoors Basel tennis tournament in Switzerland Saturday.
Huey and Inglot, unseeded in this week-long event, thus arranged a title showdown with Austria's Julian Knowle and Oliver Marach, who humbled the third-seeded Polish pair of Mariusz Frystenberg and Marcin Matkowski, 6-4, 7-6 (4), in the other semis pairing, in a battle of underdogs.
The US Open quarterfinalist tandem made it this far by shocking No. 2 Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi of Pakistan and Jean Julien Roger of the Netherlands, 3-6, 7-6 (4), 10-8, in the first round.
Going into this round, Huey and Inglot turned back Uzbekistan's Denis Istomin and Argentine Horacio Zeballos, 6-4, 7-6 (5), to advance.
Knowle and Marach likewise went through a ringer after bringing down top pick Rohan Bopanna of India and Edouard Roger-Vasselin of France, 6-4, 6-4, in the quarters.
Huey, the country's Davis Cup team ace player, and Inglot are hoping to top this tournament hoping to get enough ranking points to improve their current Association of Tennis Professionals doubles ranking of 25th and 31st, respectively.
Same with Knowle and Marach, who are currently ranked 38th and 47th in the ATP but playing beautiful tennis as of late.
