Dela Cruz, Bacalan top Rexona run

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Daryl Eduard Dela Cruz and Geraldine Bacalan turned in almost the same clocking to rule their respective divisions in the first-ever Rexona Run 2013: Run To Your Beat at the Mall of Asia grounds last Sunday.

Dela Cruz timed 1:01:31 to dominate the men’s category while Bacalan clocked 1:01:29 to top the women’s side of the centerpiece 21K category of the event that served as the country’s first-ever multi-sensorial music run where runners virtually stayed fresh from start to finish.

As one of the country’s most sought-after races, the 2013 Rexona Run took the brand’s “Do More” philosophy to another level, literally pushing more than 12,500 runners to do more through the pulsating beats that surrounded the race routes.

From the first gun start at 3 a.m. to the finale, runners were treated to loads of visual and auditory experiences – live music, fist-pumping DJ sets and a spectrum of lights.

For 21K runners, fireworks served as a unique gunstart while Sandwich played their energy-pumping song “Sugod.” Other performers were Delta Street, The Diegos, DJ Marc Marasigan, Deuce Manila and DJ Niña, who accompanied all runners until the 10 km mark, while Funk Avy and DJ Khai took over up to the 21 km mark.

Rico Blanco, Elmo Magalona and DJ Mars Miranda, meanwhile, were on hand at the finish line where a neon street party was held graced by celebrities Gretchen Ho, Robi Domingo, Bianca Gonzalez, and Phil Younghusband.

Jayson Cielo (00:31:31) and Misa Raterta (00:42:42) topped the 10K run while Jose Presbitero Jr. (00:16:31) and Athea Karla Cabello (00:16:29) ruled the 5K category.
