Archers slay Dolphins sans key players in UFL

MANILA, Philippines – Green Archers United Globe bucked the absence of three of its players as it ravaged Dolphins United, 4-0, to zoom to the Group E lead in the United Football League Cup at the Emperador Stadium in Taguig City Tuesday night.

It didn't take long for the Archers to invade through the Dolphins' brittle defense as Gab Olowoyeye scored just two minutes into the game that set the tone for the lopsided victory for the former.

Jesus Melliza followed through with his own rocket eight minutes later before Azkals star Chieffy Caligdong, a Globe endorser, made it a comfortable 3-0 advantage on the 13th minute.

New acquisition Jesse Martindale finished off the Dolphins with a second half goal, his third overall in the Cup, to send the Archers at the helm of Group E with six match points on two victories.

And the Green Archers are missing the service of Arnie Pasinabo, Tating Pasilan and Jovanie Simpron, who are currently competing for the national futsal team, named Muzang, in a tournament in Bangkok, Thailand.

Dolphins United fell to its second straight setback to remain at the bottom of its bracket.

Navy opened its campaign with a bang after it routed Blue Guards FC, 10-0, with Mohamed Diallo and Friday Okoro leading the way for the team with a brace apiece.

Richard Leyble, Gary Viliran, Arnaldo Montana, Arnold Carino and Rachy Gunda accounted for the other goals of the Navymen, who now have three match points.

It was another embarrassing loss for the Blue Guards following a 17-0 demolition they suffered at the hands of the Green Archers last week.
