MANILA, Philippines - Technological Institute of the Philippines turned back Trinity University of Asia, 70-62, to complete its sweep of the National Collegiate Basketball League crown at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines gym in Sta. Mesa recently.
The TIP Engineers, who placed third behind Centro Escolar University and TUA last year, leaned on a strong start to wrest a 38-28 lead at the turn. League MVP Jemuel Namocatcat and Carlo Gomez then took over in the clutch to hold off the rallying Stallions and clinch the victory.
Gomez and Namocatcat led the Engineers with 19 and 18 points, respectively, while JB Saret had 13 points for the Stallions.
Gomez, along with teammate Jeffrey Yanes, TUA’s Jan Alcober, PUP’s Marc Quirante and Don Dosco Technical College’s Kevin Molina made it to the mythical team.
