MANILA, Philippines - Rupert Zaragosa takes on reigning World Junior champion Kristopher Arevalo while Andres Saldana slugs it out with JP De Claro as action in the NGAP’s Philippine Match Play Championship presented by the MVP Sports Foundation resumes today with the quarterfinal round at Cangolf’s South course in Laguna.
Although Zaragosa has the talent and experience, Arevalo remains a tough opponent with the 14-year-old find boasting of a Junior World feat in San Diego last July.
Focus will also be on the Saldana-De Claro match along with the Gen Nagai-John Kier Abdon duel in the event serving as part of the PLDT Amateur Tour and backed by Pancake House, Pacsports and Golf Depot.
Gabriel Manotoc, who posted the event’s biggest reversal when he booted out seventh seed Kim Soong-wun, 3&2, Monday, hopes to continue his surge as he battles No. 2 Korean Jun Tea-yang in their quarterfinal duel.
Meanwhile, the battle for semifinal berths in the ladies side also starts today with top seed Daniella Uy colliding with No. 8 Sophia Chabon of Team ICTSI and Mikhaela Fortuna taking on Seo Yon-kwon.
Bernice Ilas-Olivares squares off with Samantha Martinez while Harmie Constantino clashes with Felicia Medalla.
