MANILA, Philippines - Castrol-Yokohama multiple champion driver Carlos Anton, tapped by Ethanworx Racing Team to pilot their race car, showed no rust on his circuit racing comeback with his display of superb skills under heavy rain as he won Race 3 in the kickoff of the 2013 Philippine Touring Car Championship recently at the Batangas Racing Circuit.
Currently the holder of three BRC track records, Anton made use of all his experience by snatching the pole position for the rain-sodden weekend races, clocking 1 min 53.834 seconds over 2010 champion Joey Perry and 2012 champion William Tan and winning race 3 of the championship for Ethanworx Racing Team powered by Yokohama, Castrol, Viewpark Hotel, Cars Unlimited, ASR Suspensions, Hornitex Laminated Flooring, Special Stage and Autoshack.
“It feels great to be back in a Touring Car and the Ethanworx race car was very well prepared. The suspension worked perfectly and that made us win under the adverse conditions,†said Anton, who’s last championship in touring cars was the Philippine GT crown in 2007.
“We are very happy with Carlos’ win because it’s the first time in our team’s history that we won at the top level of motorsports here in the country,†Ethanworx team owner Jon Mark Ong said.
A heavy downpour wet the track right before the race started and Anton actually fell back behind Dwight Carlos in the first two laps.
“I followed Dwight for two laps and he was very fast but he hit a puddle in the back straight at over 150kph and spun the car around so I was able to take the lead and held it to the finish.†Anton added.
