Mighty Sports routs EGS

MANILA, Philippines - Defending champion Mighty Sports Apparels and Accessories repeated over EGS, 95-74, and cruised to the semifinal round of the Danny Espiritu Cup at the Reyes Gym in Mandaluyong City over the weekend.

Sweet-shooting Robie Celis scattered eight of his team-high 14 points to spark a torrid first half attack before the Mighty Sports cagers built a 64-32 bulge late in the third period en route to victory, their fifth straight win dating back the elims.

Former PBA stars Rodney Santos hit three triples while Marlou Aquino came through with a dunk to highlight the Mighty Sports’ mighty run in the third.

With the win, Mighty Sports, backed by Malolos Mayor Christian Natividad, arranged a semis duel with No. 2 seed Skyforce.

Santos finished with 13 points while former Adamson star Janus Lozada and Bernzon Franco added 10 points each for Mighty Sports, which also beat EGS, 88-79, at the end of the elims.The 6-foot-9 Aquino wound up with seven points, nine rebounds and four assists.
