The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Centro Escolar University trounced host University of Asia and the Pacific, 90-33, last Sunday at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum to move just one win shy of an eight-game sweep of the 44th WNCAA senior basketball elimination round.

If the CEU Scorpions beat the La Consolacion College Manila Blue Royals on Sunday, they will gain the twice-to-beat edge in the semifinals.

Philippine Women’s University secured the No. 2 spot as it ended the elims with a 7-1 slate with a 68-30 rout of Assumption College. San Beda College Alabang kept its Final Four bid alive after beating Miriam College, 61-47, for a 4-3 card.

In the juniors semifinals, it will be defending champion Miriam against De La Salle Zobel and Chiang Kai Shek College versus La Salle College Antipolo after all four squads dominated their respective quarterfinal foes.

Miriam  thumped San Beda, 50-18; CKSC downed St. Jude Catholic School, 74-42; DLSZ beat Angelicum College, 67-52; and La Salle smothered St. Stephen’s High School, 72-42.

San Beda, meanwhile, posted a seven-game sweep of the midgets level and will need just one win against No. 4 team Poveda in the semis. St. Stephen and Miriam collide in the other semis duel of the tournament backed by Cafe Lupe Antipolo, OneA Family KTV and Sports Bar, Jeunesse, Molten, Mikasa, Goody, MJP Printing Press, Monster Radio RX 93.1, Alpha Insurance and Surety Co. and School Bus.

In senior volleyball at the RTU gym, San Beda outlasted Miriam, 25-23, 21-25, 13-25, 25-11, 18-16, to join defending champion CEU, PWU and Rizal Technological University in the semis.
