MANILA, Philippines - The registry continues to swell three weeks before the eighth leg of the MVP Sports Foundation-Philippine Badminton Ranking System (PBaRS) tournament is held with the bulk signing up on-line at pbars.com.
Fee is pegged at P500 for first entry and P250 for succeeding list-ups. Deadline is set on Oct. 14 at 5 p.m. with the roster to be posted on Oct. 16 and the draw on Oct. 18 at the PBaRS office in San Juan City, according to PBaRS tournament director Nelson Asuncion.
For on-line registration, payment can be made through China Bank (account No. 120-095941-3 under Golden Shuttle Foundation for Philippine Badminton, Inc.
Toby Gadi and Bianca Carlos, both of GSF, head the cast in the premier Open singles of the event set Oct. 26-31 with the latter coming into the tournament oozing with confidence after steering Ateneo to the UAAP women’s badminton crown.
Carlos also copped the rookie of the year honors and the coveted MVP diadem.
Others tipped to contend for the crown in the upcoming event, sanctioned by the Philippine Badminton Association headed by Vice President Jejomar Binay with sportsman Manny V. Pangilinan as chairman and Rep. Albee Benitez as sec-gen., are Paul Vivas, Peter Magnaye, Patrick Natividad, Joper Escueta and Charlo Tengco in the men’s singles, and Gelita Castilo, Janelle de Vera, Nikki Servando, Jen Cayetano, Dia Magno and Danica Bolos in the ladies side.
The first three days of the event, backed by official equipment sponsor Victor, exclusively distributed in the country by PCOME Industrial Sales, Inc., will be held at Powersmash while the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals will be played at Robinsons Place on Oct. 29-31.
