Valley, Alabang clash for Fed League crown
MANILA, Philippines - Valley and Alabang arranged a showdown for the 2013 Men’s Federation League championship after hurdling their semifinal rivals in contrasting fashion recently.
Valley sustained a streak that made it the tournament top seed by surviving Canlubang, reaching the finals for just the third time and fanning its bid for a first-ever league championship. The win avenged Valley’s loss to the same Canlubang team in last year’s Final Four.
Alabang’s re-entry into the finals since winning their first and only league crown in 2003 was delayed for a week, posting a masterful conquest of Orchard in their own semifinal duel.
Blowout wins in greensomes (Thuan Nguyen/Arnel Paras), best-ball (OV Espiritu/Daniel Roa) and aggregate (Seve Roxas-Chua/Dax Garcia) highlighted the Alabang victory which went into the match all tied up with Orchard after their first meeting ended in a 2-2 draw.
Alabang and Valley square off for the crown on Oct. 9-10.
After forging a 2-2 draw in their visit to Canlubang, the Valley golfers posted quick wins in high-low (Aidric Chan/Marvin Mendoza) 8&7 and aggregate (Zaldy Villa/Meynard Co) 5&4 before Chino Raymundo and Juax Tolentino delivered the winning point in the greensomes via a 3&2 decision that rendered the best-ball format already of no bearing.
