Sta. Lucia Tour up at Palos Verdes, Apo

MANILA, Philippines - At least 150 members of six exclusive golf clubs flying the banner of premier real estate developer Sta. Lucia Land are seeing action in the 2013 Sta. Lucia Golf Tour set today and tomorrow at the Rancho Palos Verdes Golf and Country Club and Apo Golf Club in Davao.

The 36-hole competition serving as the Mindanao swing of the Sta. Lucia Golf Tour features four-man teams coming from Orchard Golf and Country Club, Eagle Ridge Golf and Country Club, Summit Point Golf and Country Club, Beverly Place Golf and Country Club, Royale Tagaytay Country Club, and host Rancho Palos Verdes Golf and Country Club with team and individual prizes up for grabs.

“Consistent play at the two host venues Palos Verdes and Apo which are very distinct in character is the main challenge of the competition,” said Sta. Lucia Land chairman Vicente Santos.

Aside from the rigors of Apo which is being used for the first time, the SLGT committee’s decision to revert back to the four-man team modified Stableford (four-to-play, three-to-count) is also expected to make the chase for the top awards keener.

Santos said that they hope to sustain the promotion of the game not just in the exclusive confines of their old clubs but in the national setting. Sta. Lucia Land president Exequiel Robles  has already given the go signal to donate part of proceeds of the tournament to the Sta. Lucia Intermediate Amateur (Inter-Am) Golf Foundation, Inc.

From Davao, the Tour moves to Eagle Ridge for the Manila leg on Nov. 7 to 9 where attractive prizes including two Summit Point Class A Shares, two Eagle Ridge Class A shares, and one Orchard Class A share (all free of monthly dues for one year) will be raffled off.

The SLGT was established to promote camaraderie and cooperation among Sta. Lucia-operated clubs.

“For 13 years now, the Sta. Lucia Golf Tour has been the paramount golfing event for the Sta. Lucia golf clubs, encouraging member participation and healthy competition among the clubs. It has proven to be an excellent way to showcase Sta. Lucia’s world-class golf facilities,” said Robles.

This year’s competition is expected to be as equally exciting as clubs have surely beefed up their respective rosters in the bid for club supremacy.
