7:30 p.m. – Global vs Tanjong Pagar
MANILA, Philippines - Global seeks to become the first Philippine club team to make the finals of the Singapore Cup as it clashes with Tanjong Pagar United in tonight’s second leg of their semifinal showdown at the Jalan Besar Stadium in Jalan Besar Stadium in Singapore.
The Filipinos fought Tanjong Pagar to a 2-2 standoff at the Queenstown Stadium Tuesday night to stay in the hunt for a record stint in the finals of the prestigious event.
“The team is ready for the challenge,†said Global manager Dan Palami. “The good thing is now we know how to play them (Tanjong Pagar) and we can be confident of our chances.â€
Boosting Global’s bid is the return of Azkals standout Paul Mulders and Delon Patrick Yao of Ivory Coast, who both sat out the first leg due to suspension.
But Palami’s charges will be without top goalie Roland Sadia, who was assessed a second yellow card in the opening leg that sidelines him in tonight’s make-or-break duel.
Ed Sacapano, another Azkals mainstays, will take up the cudgels for Sadia and Global, hoping to relive his exploits in the Phl’s sterling Suzuki Cup performance last year.
Mulders, Yao and Sacapano will join Aaron Altiche, Misagh Bahadoran and Joshua Beloya, who turned in impressive performances in their first encounter with Tanjong Pagar.
Altiche assisted on a Bahadoran rocket on the seventh minute of the match before scoring on the 69th that turned for the equalizer.
