MANILA, Philippines - Mighty Sports Apparels and Accessories streaked to its fourth straight win by thumping EGS, 88-79, at the close of the elimination round of the Danny Espiritu Cup at the Reyes Gym in Mandaluyong City last weekend.
With Niño Marquez, Edrick Ferrer and Wowie Evangelista leading the attack, the defending champions bucked a slow start with a fiery second quarter performance to finish the elims at No. 3 with a 4-2 record.
Backed by Malolos Mayor Christian Natividad, Mighty Sports will face Naughty Needlez in the quarters with the winner earning the right to meet No. 2 Skyforce in the semis.
Sealions, ranked No. 4, will face either EGS or Globalport in the other quarterfinal pairing with the victor advancing to the semis against No. 1 MOB.
Robbie Celis led Mighty Sports’ charge with 15 points followed by Ferrer with 12. Evangelista, Mc Lean Sabellina and former Adamson star Janus Lozada scored nine points apiece.
