Mighty Sports routs N Needlez, boosts semis bid

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Mighty Sports bucked the 39-point performance of actor Gerard Anderson as it posted a convincing 104-86 rout over Naughty Needlez in the Danny Espiritu Cup at Lyceum gym in Intramuros recently.

With Ken Acibar and McLean Sabellina leading the team’s attack, the Mighty Sports of Malolos Mayor Christian Natividad took charge early then put on a strong finishing kick to notch its third straight win after back-to-back setbacks.

Acibar powered his way to 15 points while Sabellina added 12 markers as Mighty Sports boosted its Final Four bid in the seven-team tournament held in honor of PBA management agent Danny Espiritu.

Also scoring in double figures for Mighty Sports were Janus Lozada and Niño Marquez, who added 11 points apiece while former PBA MVP Kenneth Duremdes chipped in seven markers in a limited stint.

Anderson scored almost at will in the second half but his effort proved not enough in the face of Mighty Sports’ well-balanced attack.
