MANILA, Philippines - Aries Dionisio banged in 28 points for the Philippine School of Business Administration Jaguars, who clobbered the Manuel L. Quezon University Stallions, 74-60, in their second wild-card playoff series at the Central Colleges of the Philippines gymnasium in Sta. Mesa, Manila.
This allowed the Jaguars to advance to the semifinal round of the 12th Universities and Colleges Athletic Association (UCAA) men’s basketball tournament
The Jaguars forced a rubber match after beating the Stallions, 104-86, in their first rubber match last Wednesday in Dasmariñas, Cavite.
PSBA clashes with the second-ranked Rizal Technological University when semis action begins on Monday at the Olivarez College gymnasium in Sucat, Parañaque. The top-seeded Olivarez College Sea Lions take on the La Salle-Dasmariñas Patriots in the other semifinal duel.
“I’m happy that we’re in the semis. The boys relaxed early on. The veterans delivered. But the second unit still needs to improve,†said Jaguars coach Philip Cezar.
The Stallions, who had a twice-to-beat incentive against the Jaguars, fell behind in the third period after their foes limited them to nine points for the period.
Dionisio scored seven points for the Jaguars, who widened a 31-28 halftime lead to 50-37 at the end of the third.
