The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Last year’s winner Krizziah Tabora rolled a 10-game series of 2055 pinfalls at Coronado Lanes to tow 33 other lady pintopplers into the second round of the 2013 Bowling World Cup national finals recently.

Tabora, who wound up 14th in the international finals in Wroclaw, Poland, finished 57 pins ahead of Rachelle Leon, who tallied 1998, and 71 pins away from Lara Posadas (1984) in the ladies’ division of the individual tournament.

Liza del Rosario, considered one of Asia’s top lady campaigners, overcame a couple of low games to stay in the running at fifth spot with 1871.

National bowler Benshir Layoso carded 2563 in 12 games to lead  33 other keglers, including six-time world champion Paeng Nepomuceno, into the second round of the men’s competition staged last Saturday.

Layoso pulled away from fellow national player, Raoul Miranda (2523) and little-known Larry Tinio (2519).

Nepomuceno, the only four-time winner of the World Cup so far, checked in sixth at 2476, behind J. Em Ang (2491) and Jeff Carabeo (2480).

The 34 remaining men’s contenders will roll another 12 games today at Paeng’s Midtown to determine the top eight who will advance to the final day of competition on Sept. 20 at the SM Mall of Asia Center.
