Ex-PBA stars play for a cause

MANILA, Philippines - The Smart Friendly Game: Ayuda Zamboanga, a benefit basketball game for Zamboanga City residents who were affected by the ongoing crisis, will be held Sunday at the Astrodome.

Among the Zamboanga players set to see action in the event, backed by Smart, are former PBA player Chester Tolomia, San Mig Coffee’s Mark Barroca, Globalport’s Rudy Lingganay and former PBA star Jerry Codiñera.

Others joining the fund-raiser are FEU stars Mike Tolomia and RR Garcia and Ateneo’s Kiefer Ravena.

The players have volunteered their services for the one-day event for their fellow Zamboangueños.

Zamboanga City has produced a number of topnotch players, including Smart Gilas cadets Garvo Lanete and Garcia.

Organizers, led by Rolando Navarro and Vincent Guingona, also thanked businessman-sportsman Manny V. Pangilinan for his support to the event.

“We want to thank MVP for supporting this event, which will go a long way to help our fellow Zamboangueños who are affected by the ongoing crisis in Zamboanga. We would also like to call basketball fans to show their support by watching the game,” said Guingona.
