Docena gains, Fronda loses in world jr chess
MANILA, Philippines - National Master Jerad Docena defeated IM Richard Wang of Canada but compatriot Woman NM Jan Jodilyn Fronda lost to WGM Rout Padmini of India in the World Junior Chess Championships in Kocaeli, Turkey yesterday.
Docena’s win was a big follow-up to his second round victory over Mert Kilic of Turkey after an opening day setback to Russian IM Andrey Stukopin as he moved to joint 22nd. He plays Sunilduth Lyna Narayanan of India in the fourth round.
Top seed GM Yu Yangyi of China, No. 2 GM Alexander Ipatov of Turkey, No. 6 GM Salem A.R. Saleh of UAE and No.13 IM Duda Jan-Krzystof of Poland swept their first three matches to lead the Open category.
But while Docena gained, Fronda dropped to joint 48th with one point after bowing to Padmini.
