St. Paul gains lead in inter-school golf

MANILA, Philippines - National player Miya Legaspi and Daniella Uy combined for 113 points to put St. Paul’s Pasig in front in Girls 2 while La Salle-Taft kept Ateneo at bay in seniors play at the resumption of the ICTSI-JGFP Inter-School Golf Championship in various venues.

Legaspi, the recently crowned Asian Youth Games gold medalist, fired 57 points equivalent to three-under-par in medal play at the Valley executive course while Uy backed her up with a two-under 56 that allowed St. Paul’s to win a shootout with La Salle Zobel this time and grab a three-point lead (207-204).

The DLSZ duo of Abby Arevalo and Pauline del Rosario could only score 53 and 50, respectively, and lost their grip of the top spot uel and Abby Olea scored 48 and 41 points, respectively, for 89 points and a 36-hole total of 158 to lead College of St. Benilde by 11.

Over at Ayala Greenfield, La Salle-Taft’s Eric Gallardo, Inigo Raymundo and Gino Bunyi aggregated 152 for a 303 total and a nine-point advantage over Ateneo in seniors play.

Gallardo matched par 54, Raymundo again scored 50 and Bunyi had 48. Ateneo made 151 for a 294 total.

Meanwhile, in the Division 2 developmental tour conducted by The Junior Golfers League first round action at Club Intramuros, The Bridge School bets Rocco Pineda (boys kindergarten), Frances Lia Duque (girls kindergarten) and Faustina Laura Duque (girls grade 1-3) took the lead in their respective divisions.

The series is backed by the International Container Terminal Services, Inc. and also sponsored by the Pancake House Group, Sizzlin’ Pepper, Yellow Cab, Pancake House, Terikayi Boy, Golf Depot and the Philippine Golf Foundation.
