MANILA, Philippines – Army used its attacking might as it overpowered Meralco, 25-21, 25-16, 25-18, to clinch the third quarterfinal berth in the Shakey’s V-League 10 Open Conference at The Arena in San Juan City Friday.
Mary Jean Balse, a former UAAP MVP who helped the Santo Tomas Tigresses win championships during her time, unloaded 16 hits, eight on kills, five on blocks and three on service aces to power the Lady Troopers to their fourth win against a loss.
Army also joined Cagayan Province, which swept its elimination round assignment in seven games, and Smart, which holds a 4-2 mark, in the next phase.
The Power Spikers fell from fourth to fifth behind the Air Women (3-2) with a 3-3 slate.
