MANILA, Philippines - Ateneo and National U tripped their respective rivals to bolster their semifinal bids in the 11th Fr. Martin Cup Division 2 basketball tournament at the Arellano U gym in Legarda over the weekend.
Joma Adornado and Jerie Pingoy combined for another big performance as the Blue Eagles crushed the University of the East Warriors, 75-59, while the Bulldogs stopped the University of Perpetual Help Altas’s six-game romp with a 72-62 victory.
Adornado tallied 24 points while Pingoy scored 23 for Ateneo, which improved to 5-1 and stayed behind Lyceum (5-0) in Group A.
Both the Altas (5-1) and the Bulldogs are now the top contenders for semis slots in Group B.
Alfred Aroga, Reden Celda and Ralph Napa made 17, 14 and 11 points as the Bulldogs posted their fifth win against two losses.
