Pingris, Nabong sacked for 2 games; Devance for 1 game
MANILA, Philippines – San Mig Coffee forward Marc Pingris and GlobalPort Fil-Am rookie Kelly Nabong were both meted with two-game suspension and Php60,000 fine each for their involvement in the “basketbrawl†that marred the Mixers 102-88 victory over Batang Pier last Wednesday night at the Cuneta Astrodome.
“Fighting will not be condoned by the league. There is absolutely no justification for our players to get involved in fistfights. Strong emphasis is being placed on this policy so much so that those who dare to trigger fights will be dealt with accordingly,†PBA Commissioner Chito Salud said in a statement released to the media Friday morning.

Salud met with both Pingris and Nabong, the central figures in the fracas that erupted at the 8:11 mark of the third quarter of their game, on separate meetings Thursday.

Meanwhile, Joe Devance, who instigated the commotion by shoving GlobalPort enforcer Marvin Hayes that led to the fight between Pingris and Nabong, will be suspended for one game plus a fine of Php30,000.
Hayes escaped suspension and was only meted with a Php20,000 fine for his unsportsmanlike conduct, equivalent for Flagrant Foul Penalty 2, for elbowing and kneeing import Marqus Blakely on the floor after a foul had already been called.

Salud reiterated that ‘instigators, hotheads and troublemakers have no place in the PBA and will be dealt with severely.’
“They too will have to bear a heavy price for their act,†Salud said. “Finally, I want to remind our players that long after sanctions have been served, your overall conduct's impression on our youth will continue to last.â€
Pingris and Devance will miss the much-awaited Manila Classico match between the Mixers and Brgy. Ginebra San Miguel on Sunday.
