Que kicks off bid in Omega Masters

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Angelo Que hopes to put on a strong start and get another lucky break when he opens his bid against some of the world’s leading players in the Omega European Masters firing off today in Crans Montana, Switzerland.

Que, who only got confirmation to play again in the $482,952 event late last week, forcing him to give his slot in the ongoing ICTSI Manila Southwoods Championship, enjoyed one of his best stints at the majestic Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club in 2009 when he finished joint seventh.

“I was pretty lucky that week and it’s going to be hard to do better than that, especially with a strong field in such a big event this week,” said Que, a three-time Asian Tour leg winner.

“But having said that, my goal is to finish in the Top 10 and if I can do that, it will be a great week for me,” he added.

The 34-year-old Que primed up for the event with a runner-up and third place finishes on the Asian Development Tour and the ICTSI Philippine Golf Tour.

He earned six official world golf ranking points from his recent showings to make a big move to his current 353rd position on the world rankings.

“I was first reserve last week and now that I’m in, I aim to get more world ranking points so that I can also earn my place in the World Cup later his year,” said Que, who will tee-off at 9:40 a.m. with Eduardo dela Riva and amateur Renato Paratore, both of Spain.

Other top players in the fold are Padraig Harrington, Jeev Milkha Singh, Thongchai Jaidee, Miguel Angel Jimenez, Modh Siddikur, Jose Maria Olazabal, Paul Lawrie, Darren Clarke, Paul Casey, Francesco Molinari, David Howell, Jbe Kruger and Simon Dyson.
