MANILA, Philippines - Football legends Fabio Cannavaro and Dennis Wise will spice up the action when the battle for Clear Supremacy between brothers Phil and James Younghusband blasts off Saturday at the University of Makati.
Cannavaro, skipper of the Italian team that ruled the 2006 Fifa World Cup, and Wise, owner of several titles during his stint with Chelsea, will reinforce the teams assembled by Filipino stars Phil and James for the Clear Dream Match II, the biggest football all-star game put up by Clear, the number one men’s shampoo brand.
Cannavaro will beef up Team James, out to avenge its setback to Team Phil in the inaugural edition last year, while Wise will lend his expertise with the side of the younger Younghusband.
“Last year’s match was one sided, this year I want to help James even the score,†said Cannavaro.
“Like Phil I love to win and I always love to score goals, and that’s the type of team I want to be associated with,†Wise said.
The legends’ additionis expected raise the level of competition in the Clear Dream Match II, sponsored by Smart, Greenwich, Seda Hotels, Adidas, Gatorade, Rappler and TechnoMarine.
Naples-born Cannavaro is considered one of the greatest defenders of his generation, earning the nickname “Muro di Berlino†(The Berlin Wall) for his defensive exploits throughout Italy’s triumphant campaign in the 2006 World Cup, especially in the final against France in Berlin. He was named Fifa World Player of the Year in the same year.
A central midfielder known for his aggressive style, Wise captained the Chelsea teams that won the FA Cup in 1997 and 2000, the League Cup in 1998 and the UEFA Winner’s Cup in 1998.
The composition of Team James and Team Phil has been completed recently, with fans helping determine the cast of stalwarts from the Azkals, UFL, and college leagues and local celebs through more than four weeks of voting on Clear’s Facebook page.
