Marfori-A rules KL rapid chess

KUALA LUMPUR  – Marfori Team-A whipped Chesskidz Next Generation (Singapore), 3.5-0.5, in the ninth and final round to rule the 33rd ASTRO Merdeka Rapid Open Team Chess Championship Sunday.

Marfori Team A  finished with 17.0 points, a full point ahead of KL Chess Kids A of Malaysia.

Ronald Dableo, who needed to raise his Elo 2500 to complete his GM title status, defeated Nelson Mariano III on the top board.

Also posting decisive results were FM Christopher Castellano and Ivan Gil Biag on boards 3 and 4. Castellano beat IM Richelieu Salcedo III while Biag toppled Isaak Soh.

 Chesskidz Next Generation (Singapore) averted a shutout after FM Roderick Nava split the point with FM Leonardo Carlos on board 2.
