MANILA, Philippines - The second leg of the Metropolitan Chess Club amateur chess tournament reels off at 10:30 a.m. today at the Walter Mart Sucat in Parañaque.
Qualified to join are newcomers, unrated and rated players with NCFP rating of 1850 or below, regardless of age and sex. This one-day event will adopt the seven-round Swiss System in selecting the top 10 major winners and five category top performers.
At stake is P15,000 worth of cash prizes, with the champion getting the top prize of P4,000. The cash prizes are broken down to 10 places. Likewise a special cash award will be given to the top scorers among the kiddies 12-under; 16-under; unrated: ladies; and seniors. Four gift certificates will also be raffled among the participants.
This monthly chessfest is supported by US-based philanthropist Rosita Lee of Las Vegas and the F&B Glass, Aluminum Supplies & Services Corp.
Registration is at 10:30 a.m. at the mall’s event area. Hostilities start at 11 a.m. Entry fee is P350 with one meal and one paper chessboard.
