MANILA, Philippines - Cousins Aidric Chan and Carl Corpus delivered 52 points each as defending champion Ateneo zoomed to an early 16-point lead in the Midgets at the start of the ICTSI-JGFP Inter-School Golf Championship Series at the Capitol Hills Golf and Country Club.
Returning from his impressive international stints in California, Chan matched the output of Corpus and together with the 50-point effort of teammate Karl dela Torre, the Ateneans aggregated 154 that made them the team to beat anew as they paced Learning Links in the Midgets 1 division featuring 10 teams.
Over at the Capitol Hills Golf and Country Club, La Salle-Zobel got 48 points from Nicole Abelar and 40 from Jona Magcalayo to set the pace in the Girls 3 division.
With 88 points, La Salle-Zobel led by 18 over Assumption which got 35 points each from Mika Arroyo and Laia Barro in the tourney backed by the International Container Terminal Services, Inc. as major sponsor and also supported by Pancake House, Sizzlin’ Pepper, Yellow Cab, Golf Depot and McDonald’s.
Ira Alido of Elizabeth Seton and Sophia Blanco of OB Montessori both turned in sub-par rounds to led all scorers in the individual division. Alido fired 55 points on a gross of 71 at the Valley executive to lead Luis Castro of Learning Links by two in Midgets 1 while Blanco carded a two-under 60 at the par-62 Capitol Hills course for 56 points in Girls 3.
Action resumes today with the high-powered junior division cast at Valley and the seniors playing at Aguinaldo.
Eight teams led by Ateneo, La Salle Greenhills, La Salle-Zobel, Xaxier and Brent are joining the Juniors category which attracted 57 players competing for the individual title while La Salle, Ateneo and College of St. Benilde are out to contest the seniors diadem. The seniors field has 34 players also vying for the individual plum.
