MANILA, Philippines - The fourth ICTSI-JGFP Inter-School Golf Championships kicks off today at the Valley and Capitol Hills courses with 240 players from 19 schools taking part.
Midgets 1 play at Valley and Girls 3 action at Capitol Hills usher in hostilities in the series, which will be played in 16 consecutive weekends over three months.
Fielding entries in the seven-team categories are Ateneo, La Salle Greenhills, La Salle Zobel, DLSU-Taft, La Salle Canlubang, College of St. Benilde, Assumption, Brent, British School Manila, School of Tomorrow, Jesus Flock Academy, OB Montessori Greenhills, Montessori Integrated School, St Paul’s Pasig, Xavier, Colegio San Agustin, The Masters Academy, Laurel Spring School, Learning Links, Elizabeth Seton and MGC, ICA, MGC New Life Academy.
Aside from Midgets 1 and Girls 3, the other events on tap are Seniors (boys college), Juniors and Midgets 2, Girls 1 and Girls 2.
All teams will be playing five times but only their four best aggregate scores shall be counted. The best four out of five scorers under the Molave system of scoring will count per playing day.
“We doff our hats to all the schools which have allowed their students to join us again in the Inter-school series. This will ensure the continued exposure to competitions for our junior players,†said Luigi Tabuena, president of Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines.
Tabuena also credited the support of the host venues – Valley, Capitol Hills, Intramuros, Ayala Greenfield and Aguinaldo – for allowing the use of their facilities in the expanded series as well as the event sponsors.
ICTSI is the main backer of the JGFP’s talent development program. The other sponsors are Pancake House, Sizzlin’ Pepper and McDonald.
There are 10 teams entered in Midgets 1 and four on Girls 3. Midget 2 and Juniors will feature 10 teams as well while five are playing in Girls 2.
