Top riders gun for crucial wins in Phl GT series

MANILA, Philippines - Action in the fourth leg of the Yokohama Philippine Grand Touring Car Championships resumes tomorrow with the leading contenders for the Driver of the Year award stepping up their respective bids at the Clark International Speedway in Pampanga.

Dondon Portugal goes for a second straight win against multi-titled champion Jody Coseteng of Eagle Cement and Peter Kim of Team S-Oil Racing, hoping to come up with a followup to this victory in the GT300 class the last time out.

Kim missed the action to honor a commitment to compete in South Korea but Coseteng failed to exploit his rival’s absence as he figured in crash with Willy Torres, forcing him to pull out of the main race.

That put both Portugal and Torres in strong contention for the overall plum in the event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by official oil Petronas Lubricants, official tires Yokohama, and media partners Racing Beat@Wave 89.1 and  Inside Motoring on DZRJ 810khz.

Others vying in the event are GT300 drivers Dwight Kevin Carlos, and JP Tuason on a BMW, Arnel Carlos in the GT200, Allen Macaraig for the GT 130 crown, and newcomer Walter Zamora for the GT100 title.

Highlighting the event is the ‘Sparco Bracket Circuit Racing’ where amateur drivers will get a feel of circuit racing. It is open to newbies with no AAP circuit racing license.  No registration fee is required as participants only need to bring their own car and safety gears like helmet, seat belt, long sleeves, jeans and closed shoes.
