MANILA, Philippines - Jovelyn Gonzaga and Nene Bautista of Army bested Alyssa Valdez and Bea Tan of Ateneo as it captured the first MVP Sports Foundation National Women’s beach volleyball invitational crown at the Cantada Sports Center’s sand court in Bagumbayan, Taguig City last weekend.
Adamson Team 1 of Shiela Marie Pineda and Amanda Villanueva placed third in the event backed by MVP Sports Foundation and graced by Sen. JV Ejercito, who made the ceremonial serve.
Other teams which took part in the tournament supported by Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, Toyota Balintawak, Toyota Otis, Toyota Marilao, Philippine Flour Mills, Puyat Steel, Tanduay Rhum, Nagaraya Nuts, Wilson Sports, Mapecon, and sports benefactors Atty. Gilberto Duavit and Lucio “Bong†Tan Jr., were Adamson Team 2, National University Teams 1 and 2, Philippine Air Force, Philippine Navy, Rizal Technological University, Iloilo and Davao.
The two-day invitational was organized by Edgardo “Boy†Cantada and Gerard Cantada. The organizers provided complimentary air-tickets, board and lodging and other assistance to all participants who were billeted at the Cantada Sports Center.
