Pinay golfers settle for 2nd in US jungolf
MANILA, Philippines - Princess Superal rebounded with a four-under 68 but ran out of holes and wound up second to Emilee Hoffman in the Sacramento City Junior Golf Championship at the Haggin Oaks Complex in California Thursday.
Superal, who struggled to salvage an even par 72 and trail Hoffman by three in the first round, rammed in three birdies at the front then added two more against a bogey at the back to complete a 33-35 card.
But her 36-hole output of 140 fell three shots off Hoffman, who matched the top ICTSI bet’s closing 68 to clinch the crown in the premier girls’ 15-17 category with a 137.
Sofia Chabon, just one shot off the lead in the 12-14 division, failed to recover from a poor bogey-bogey start and limped with a 75 for a 151, four behind American Angela Bagasbas, who matched par to run away with the crown at 147.
Abegail Arevalo, the other Team ICTSI mainstay, fought back from an opening 84 with a 73 to salvage third place at 157.
The two-day event served as Superal’s final tune-up for the US Women’s Amateur Championship firing off Aug. 5 at the Country Club of Charleston in South Carolina.
Cyna Rodriguez, the former Philippine Ladies Open champion and the reigning Hong Kong Ladies Open titlist, is also competing in the US premier women’s amateur championship.
