Mangosong breaks thru in Kopiko tilt

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - After languishing in the shadow of Glenn Aguilar and Jonjon Adlawan since January, Bornok Mangosong of Atong Racing finally captured a Pro Open (450 cc) title, ruling the Kopiko Astig 3-in-One Supercross Series 2013’s seventh leg in Cagayan de Oro City over the weekend.

Trailing the series’ two leaders after six legs, Mangosong made his move in the last two stages, posting the upset win over Aguilar of KTM Access Plus and Adlawan of Team Kopiko at the slick, muddied track behind SM City CdO.

Don Yuson also put in a strong performance to snatch second place in the premier class, relegating Adlawan to third and Aguilar to fourth.

Team Kopiko’s Jubenille Abellar wound up fifth.

In the Pro Lites (250 cc) races, the 21-year-old Adlawan took first this time with Aguilar finishing second. Mangosong settled for third followed by Abellar and Yuson, respectively.

Team Kopiko prevailed in the team race, which was held for the third time in the series. The next leg will be held in Davao City this month.

Meanwhile, the seventh leg will be aired over Studio 23 this Sunday starting at 11 a.m.

Jacob Orbe turned in an impressive performance as he outclassed Glenn Lapuz and Christopher Bandigan to clinch the Novice diadem. Krystian Celebrado and Sai-sai Busayong ended up fourth and fifth, respectively.

In other results, Ambo Yappardon took the Intermediate title, beating Ted Conde, Orbe, JC Rellosa and Jeven Legarda in that order, while McLean ‘Aguilar topped Gleen Lapuz, Abu Mata, Ceet John Sambon and Kenken Sabresos to reign in Beginner’s Open.

Jungie Cabuco outlasted Kerob Casinabe, Sausa Jay Bryan, Randy Balagtas and Michael Lobendina to cop the Underbone crown while Jannel Saulog bested Pia Gabriel and RK Cuestra to bag the women’s diadem.

Other winners were Glenn Gaid (Peewee 50cc), BJ Pepito (Peewee 65cc), McLean Aguilar (Mini), Christian Morente (Local Enduro), Glenn Lapuz (Open Enduro), Michael Rivera (Veterans A), Anthony Belican (Veterans B) and Jordan Herrera (Veterans C).
