Gonzales, former PSA chief, 78

MANILA, Philippines - Former Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) president Enrique Gonzales passed away last Monday due to cardiac arrest. He was 78.

Fondly called Eking in the local sports community, Gonzales served as sports editor of the Times Journal (later News Herald/Philippine Journal) until his retirement. He started working for the Philippine Journalists, Inc. (PJI)  under veteran newsman Gus Villanueva on Oct. 16, 1972 and retired at the age of 60 on July 19, 1994.

He served as PSA president for two terms during the late 80s and covered several Olympic Games, including his last, the Barcelona Olympics in 1992.

He is survived by children Bryan and Irish Amos and sisters Cely, Priscilla and Tuding.

His body lies in state at 475 J.Garcia St., Poblacion, Plaridel, Bulacan. Interment will be tomorrow.
