MANILA, Philippines - The Palawan Pawnshop age-group tennis tournament resumes its provincial swing next week when the next leg is held in Baybay, Leyte with another big field expected to vie for top honors in various divisions at the Baybay Tennis Club courts.
As part of its continuing effort to give the youth the feel of tournament play, the organizing Philippine Tennis Association and sponsoring Palawan Pawnshop are waiving off the tournament fee for all participants with chief backer Babolat, through Technosports president Guillermo Nocom, also providing giveaways.
For details, call Philta referee and tournament organizer Bobby Mangunay at 09154046464.
Events on tap are the 12-, 14-, 16- and 18-and-under categories for boys and girls plus the 10-unisex class.
“By opening the tournament to everybody, we hope to encourage more youth to take up the sport,†said Philta president and Parañaque Mayor Edwin Olivarez. “We hope to discover new talents who can be developed and trained to become members of the national pool.â€
The upcoming Group 2 tournament comes on the heels of the successful staging of Palawan Pawnshop’s President’s Cup with Marcus del Rosario pulling off a three-title romp and Erika Manduriao scoring a double victory at the Olivarez Sports Center last week.
“Palawan Pawnshop has vigorously supported the Philta regional age grouper both financially and by overseeing the technical management of the events. Our efforts have been rewarded by the positive and overwhelming acceptance by the participants and fans alike,†said Palawan Pawnshop COO Bobby Castro.
