MANILA, Philippines - Mindanao’s best junior players return to action in the ICTSI-JGFP School Season series which begins July 14 at the Pueblo de Oro Golf and Country Club course in Cagayan de Oro.
Rainstar Roque and JJ Gamolo, two of the region’s top guns, will lead a field of at least 50 players from Cagayan de Oro, Del Monte and nearby provinces in the tourney organized by the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines with the major support of International Container Terminal Services, Inc.
The tourney will be held with the Pueblo de Oro in the best of shape as it hosts the country’s top professionals led by Frankie Miñoza, whose foundation is supporting the jungolf movement in Mindanao, in the ICTSI Philippine Golf Tour this week.
Events on tap are the age-group competitions also sponsored by Pancake House, Sizzlin’ Pepper, Yellow Cab, Golf Depot and McDonald’s in Class A (15-17 years), Class B (13-14), Class C (11-12) and Class D (9-10), similar to the weekend-only school season event currently being staged in Metro Manila.
The JGFP holds the stroke play individual event as a follow-up to the ICTSI-JGFP Mindanao Inter-School golf championships at the Del Monte Golf course in San Miguel, Bukidnon late last year as part of its grassroots campaign.
Meanwhile, 38 of the the country’s top jungolfers are preparing for their campaign in the annual Callaway Junior World championships in various golf courses in San Diego, California starting Tuesday.
