The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Top Filipino boxing prospect, Jessel Mark Magsayo of Tagbilaran City signed a multi-year fight contract under ALA Promotions as one of the latest additions to the elite list of Filipino world title hopefuls under the country’s premier boxing outfit.

Magsayo who turned 18 last June 22, has been boxing as an amateur since he was eight. He joined several competitions, including the annual Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines (ABAP) national tournaments where he garnered four gold medals in different weight divisions  and was named best boxer twice.

Last May, the 5-6 amateur standout made an explosive pro-debut as a featherweight during Pinoy Pride XX dropping Melton Sandal twice en route to a first round knockout win. This month, Magsayo will be one of the special attractions for Pinoy Pride XXI: When Worlds Collide at the Solaire Resort and Casino.

ALA Promotions has succeeded in putting the Philippines on the boxing map by puting young boxers into mainstream of world boxing. Expected to be the future star of Philippine boxing, Magsayo will once again showcase his boxing finesse in Pinoy Pride XXI.
